Maj Gen (Dr) Mohan Jeet Singh Syali, VSM (Retd) had a distinguished Army career spanning 36+ years. His brilliant academic credentials include B.Tech (Electronics) (Gold Medal) from JNU, M.Tech from IIT Kanpur, M.Sc from University of Madras, Master of Management Studies from Osmania University Hyderabad, Advance Course in Software Technology and Networking from IDC Foundation Delhi, Masters Diploma in Public Administration from Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, Master of Philosophy from Panjab University, Chandigarh and P.hD (Physics) from Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad.
During his illustrious career, Maj Gen (Dr) MJS Syali has held a variety of regimental, command, instructional and staff appointments. He was instrumental in providing quality engineering support to operationally deployed units in High Altitude Area including Siachen Glacier during 2002 to 2004 and in the North East region during 2010 to 2012. His staff exposure includes Military Operations Directorate, Weapons & Equipment Directorate, Operation Research Systems Analysis & Technology Directorate at HQ Integrated Defence Staff. As Additional Director General EME he was responsible for sustenance of all Electronics, Missile, Air Defence systems, Armaments, Small Arms as also propel the Army’s Indigenisation programme in line with the Make in India initiative of the Govt of India. As Commandant of EME School, Vadodara he laid emphasis on research in emerging technologies and collaboration with other entities for knowledge sharing.
Maj Gen (Dr) Syali has been honoured by the President of India with ‘Vishist Seva Medal’ on Republic Day 2019 to recognize ‘Distinguished service of a high order’ and Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card on Army Day 2005. Maj Gen (Dr) Syali was felicitated as an Eminent Engineering Personality by the President, The Institution of Engineers (India) on 15 Feb 2020 for his contribution in the field of Computer Engineering. Maj Gen (Dr) Syali is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and a life member of The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.
Maj Gen (Dr) Syali assumed the appointment of Secretary and Director General of the Institution w.e.f. August 2021 to date.
